“Seven at one stroke”

Report about the first day of training on 1 August 2019. The new training year began for many young adults in Rhineland-Palatinate, including the apprentices at the company Bilstein & Siekermann GmbH & Co. KG started on 1 August 2019.

This year, six young people started their careers with us:  Daniel Klein and Justin Presser started their apprenticeships as metal cutting mechanics; Nils Schmitz started his apprenticeship as a tool mechanic. Denise Jakobs opted for an office management assistant apprenticeship, while Fabian Ochs, who successfully completed his first apprenticeship started his third year of training in the field of warehouse logistics. Nils Jungen started his dual degree course in mechanical engineering with an apprenticeship as a punching and forming mechanic.

In addition, Celine Betz started her 12-month commercial work placement in our company to complete her technical college leaving certificate.

The new trainees were warmly welcomed on their first day in the company's conference room where they met the HR manager, Ms Britta Ubl and Anna Wald, a third-year apprentice. A personal folder with all the important documents and training tools were then presented to each trainee.

After a short round of introductions, there was a presentation about the company with instructive videos and clear explanations of how the products are manufactured.

Then the trainees were told about important safety instructions that need to be observed within the company. After this, each trainee was given a pair of safety shoes and ear protectors, and the technical trainees were also given additional work clothes and safety goggles.
The heads of the departments then came to introduce themselves and welcome the new trainees to their departments.

Then a group photo was taken that was posted in all departments to inform the other employees about the new colleagues.
When the heads of the departments went back to work, all the contractual regulations and other matters were discussed with the newest recruits. Information about scheduled seminar dates was also provided, e.g. the date for the fork-lift driving permit for the technical apprentices and
the health promotion seminar “AzubiActive”. In early September the trainees will also attend an in-house seminar “Production System BSH”. After that, Anna took them on a tour of the company giving the new recruits the opportunity to introduce themselves to each department. It also gave them the opportunity to see where they would be working.

The end of the tour marked the end of the first morning and the group shared lunch in the company canteen which had opened on the 1st of April this year.

After lunch the apprentices went their ways to their respective departments to start work.

At the end of the first day, everyone went home with a lot of impressions and a good feeling after this eventful day.
